Tell us your town's story

Don't see your town here yet? If you know how it got its name, we'd love to hear it. Locals, librarians and historical societies often know things no book has.

How this works: we read every story, then look for a source we can cite before we write about it. Nothing you send is published as is. If we can't back it up, we'll say the origin is unknown or disputed.

1. The place

What are you sending?

2. The story

Who named it, when, and why, as far as you know. A few lines is fine.

3. Where the story comes from

This is what helps us most. "It's what people say" is a perfectly good answer.

Where did you read or hear it? check at least one

Is there a book or file about your town's history at the local library or historical society?

Title, author, year, page, or where to find it. For example: "A county history book from 1901, page 42, at our town library."

Could you send us a photo or scan of it if we ask?

4. About you

We use your email only to ask about your story. We never publish it, sell it or add you to a mailing list. Privacy Policy.
